Hi, I’m Shruti.

I’m a conversational AI designer, behavioral researcher, and builder who cares deeply about how technology shows up in people’s inner lives. For the past 7.5 years, I’ve worked at the intersection of psychology, human–AI interaction, and product design—studying how language, timing, and tone shape trust, motivation, and emotional experience in AI systems.

My work spans academic research (including an ACM-published study on social explanations and rapport in conversational agents), industry research and design (most recently on calibrated emotional responsiveness at Amazon Alexa), and early-stage startup work designing behavioral nudges and intent-aware systems. Across all of it, I’m drawn to the same questions: How can AI support people without replacing human connection? How do we design systems that are empathetic without becoming intrusive, and helpful without encouraging dependence?

I have a background in psychology and child development, and I’ve spent time studying how humans learn, regulate emotion, and make meaning—both in early development and in everyday adult life. That foundation shapes how I approach AI: as a social, emotional, and cognitive participant in human systems, not just a technical tool.

Outside of research, I’m a singer and dancer, a longtime tennis and pickleball player, and someone who loves bringing people together—whether that’s through teaching, mentoring, or hosting slightly unhinged events like adult spelling bees and talent shows. I care about community, curiosity, and building things that help people feel a little less alone.
